Dumpster Fees and How to Avoid Them

We charge a trip fee if the truck driver cannot drop off or pick up your dumpster due to obstacles that interfere with loading or unloading. 

For example, the delivery truck needs 18 feet of vertical clearance to drop off a dumpster. If there are low-hanging tree branches over your drop spot that prevent the driver from unloading the container, you may be charged a trip fee. 

Choose a placement area that is free of any permanent obstacles, and keep the location clear during the time window for delivery or pickup. 

• Remove low-hanging tree branches.
• Check to ensure there are no low-hanging wires over the delivery area.
• Familiarize yourself with dumpster dimensions to clear enough space.
• No vehicles in the driveway or blocking access from the street.

We can't accept hazardous waste and other prohibited items in our dumpsters because they require special disposal. If you put these items in your container, you may be charged a fee to cover the cost of proper disposal. 

Do not dispose of prohibited items in your dumpster. If you have a question about a specific item that isn't on our list, call our helpful service team at 844-444-DUMP before tossing it in the dumpster.

If you need to dispose of items classified as hazardous waste, contact your local waste management department to see if there are drop-off sites or scheduled pickup dates for your area. Here are some common options for proper trash disposal:

• Mail-In Kits: Certain organizations can send you a mail-in kit for your waste. You will need to fill out a form online to specify what you will be disposing of and your location. 
• Recycling: Drop-off sites and retail stores often host recycling programs for batteries, cell phones, tires and other prohibited materials you cannot throw in a dumpster. Auto-parts stores and repair shops may accept used car oil or antifreeze for recycling. 
• Request Hazardous Waste Pickup: If there are no local drop-off sites in your area, you can often schedule a pickup through your waste service. 

Landfills charge a dumpster hauler by the weight of the debris in the dumpster. We include a specific weight limit in our flat-rate dumpster rental prices, and if you exceed that number, you may be charged a prorated overage fee for each ton over the weight limit. 

The best way to avoid an overage fee is to accurately scope your project and order the correct dumpster size. Use our dumpster weight calculators to estimate how much your debris will weigh. Our calculators cover common materials including:

If a dumpster is so full that materials are piled higher than the walls or are hanging over the sides, then it is considered overloaded. Drivers can't legally transport overloaded dumpsters on the road, so if you put too much in your container, you may be charged an extra fee for driver delay and container dig-out. 

It is also illegal for a driver to transport a load weighing more than ten tons on the road. If the debris in your dumpster is so heavy that it cannot be removed, you may be charged a trip fee (see above).

1. Place all bulky items at the bottom of the dumpster. Remember you can use the dumpster door for easy loading!
2. Load the dumpster evenly. This will help keep the dumpster from shifting or tipping over during transit. 
3. Fill in any gaps as you start to load up the container.
4. Break down and flatten items whenever possible so they take up less space.
5. Be conscious of the dumpster's weight limit. If you dumpster is filling up faster than you thought, you can schedule an empty-and-return-service.

Late fees generally apply each day that you keep your dumpster after your rental period ends. Remember that we will not pick up your dumpster until you call us to schedule removal. Be sure to call on or before the last day of your rental period. 

Once you're done using the dumpster, call our team at 844-444-DUMP to schedule a pickup. As long as you call for removal on or before the last day of your rental agreement, you will not be charged a late fee.
